In the days before Facebook, everyone loved Raymond’s music.
On the morning of February 7, 2004, Raymond had arrived at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens and was standing in the middle of the crowd, taking in the sights of the Sydney Opera House.
His eyes were filled with love.
“I’ve been a big fan of Ray for a while now,” he told the ABC in the early morning hours.
“I went to the Sydney Show in the 90s, and I think it was his first time ever in the Opera House.”
It was a stunning moment.
Raymond’s band, The Rock of Love, had been performing on Sydney’s waterfront since their debut album, Love Island, was released in 1992.
The group’s songs, which were all written in the space of four days in late February, were so beautiful and catchy that they would go on to become Australian pop icons.
They had been on tour in the U.S. with the pop band The Monkees, and they’d released a number of singles that year, including “We’ll Fly”, “I’m Going To Fall”, “Love Is The New Drug” and “The Rock of Life”.
Raymonds had been playing in the audience and performing his songs for almost four hours before he collapsed on the stage.
It took doctors and nurses about two hours to revive him, and he was taken to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney, where doctors were forced to put him into a medically induced coma.
But in the days after his death, Raymonds’ family was devastated.
Their loved ones were distraught.
When they first learned that Raymond was dead, they didn’t know what to do.
My mother and my sister, who are also my closest friends, were shocked and devastated.
They thought that they had lost a good friend, someone who would always be there for them.
At the time, the family was living in a one-bedroom house in the central Sydney suburb of Caulfield, and their family was just getting to grips with the loss.
After years of trying to move on with their lives, they finally found solace in music.
In the months that followed, The Monkeys would perform at festivals across Australia, including the Sydney Music and Arts Festival and the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival.
And while they were performing at festivals, they were constantly getting emails from Raymonds, pleading with them to come and see him.
He’d get emails from people saying, ‘I want to hear you sing for me’ and, ‘You can come to my house and sing for us.’
Raymmys friends were desperate to know when his funeral would be.
People loved Ray, they just didn’t have the means to get to see him, they couldn’t afford to drive him to the cemetery, or the funeral would cost more than they could afford.
I remember thinking, ‘This is the most expensive funeral in Australia, it would be a huge hassle, there’d be police and a lot of people, I’d be in a lot more pain than I am right now.’
I’m not a big singer, but I knew that Ray would never be able to sing.
I knew I had to do something.
I decided I had got to make music, so I did.
For Ray, his fans were also the greatest fans.
He wrote songs for them and gave them videos of him playing in front of them.
I remember one video I made when I was 14 years old, which shows Ray singing the song “Happy Birthday” with his wife, Kay.
We have a song that I recorded when I got married and it’s really, really touching, it’s just amazing.
Kay has always been a really, truly supportive person, and we always say, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be OK.’
When Ray died, it was all very difficult.
But I’ve been through a lot in my life and my friends have been through it too, and so has Ray.
He would never give up.
If you have been on the internet, you’ve probably seen this story.
What Raymond would have wanted for Christmas Raymond and his band The Rock were making a comeback in 2005 with a new album, Happy Birthday, which included songs by the Monkeys, The Avalanches, Radiohead and others.
His death at the age of 45 was sudden and unexpected.
By the time the album came out, Ray was already well-known in the music industry and he had a large following.
Despite his popularity, he had no real band to support him.
Instead, he was given his own music label, E-Rage, and a number from his label’s website, Love Is The Love Island Records, were available to purchase.
